The Khat (ISR)

" The KHAT brings the style of Yemeni folk music from the ’50’s to ’70’s heard from Sana’a to Ta’izz to life. Keeping an air of the traditional, tribal singing, modern arrangements are sung in Arabic and Hebrew and banged out on hand made instruments such as Sauce-pans strung up and amplified, a bass made out of bicycle, electric and fervent performances. KHAT is the plant that grows across Yemen and chewed in social gatherings and celebrations for its intoxicating effect , a controversial symbol of Yemenite culture as a stimulant and addictive . The band The KHAT presents a mixed illustration of the challenges of day to day life in Yemen with a joy and uplifting spirit of celebration."
